Pay It Forward - Make a Difference!

In the spring of 2002, four retiring Tucson Unified educators--Roger Pfeuffer, Tom Scarborough, Ross Sheard, and Beth Thompson--in collaboration with the Educational Enrichment Foundation hosted a "retirement social" and a new tradition was born.

Student groups, clubs and organizations may apply for “Pay It Forward” grants to support community service projects and may be submitted at any time through out the school year. Groups are not limited to formal clubs or organizations, i.e., a group can be a class, sport team, a group with a common goal.
Selected projects will be awarded matching grants for funds already acquired. A community service project will be one that benefits your neighborhood, school or local community. Groups may apply for matching grants up to $500. Notification regarding applications will be made within 30 days of receipt.


1. All proposals submitted by student organizations must be school approved.
2. Your group must be affiliated with the Tucson Unified School District to qualify for the Pay it Forward Program.
3. Each student group must have a TUSD employee as their adult sponsor or advisor.
4. Each group is expected to provide a final project report, including copies of receipts showing how the money was spent.
5. The school principal must give written permission for the students to conduct fundraising activities.
